One of the first movies I ever remember watching with my dad was BeetleJuice. And my parents wonder how I ended up in the goth scene.

I think it’s so important to keep in mind that the idea that feminine things are uncool, less than, unimportant, or even anti feminist is a misogynistic attitude to have. Just because something is feminine doesn’t make it anti feminist. You can be a feminist and wear high heels. You can be a feminist and wear make up. You can be a feminist and a stay at home mom. You can be a feminist and wear dresses. Know why? Because all feminism is is the radical notion that women are people.
hupsoonheng:You know what is awesome? Feminine feminists. Why? Because they reject the patriarchal narrative of what it means to be an empowered woman. The patriarchy has made a space for “the feminist” within its structure and deemed her to be a hairy-legged, man-hating caricature. Now, I might not be the most feminine chick in the beauty salon (as my luxurious armpit hair will demonstrate) but the fact that I can shut down a sexist without getting any lipstick on my teeth makes me awesome.
By rejecting femininity wholesale, you’re actually agreeing with the sexist assumption that masculinity is better, that maleness is the more worthy gender. You can recognize the constructed nature of gender at the same time you perform it.
You know what is awesome? Feminist. Period. Why should a girl in all pink and big poofy dress be seen as more feminine than a girl in a t-shirt and jeans? They’re both women, and identify with the female gender. From the moment they say “It’s a girl” or “it’s a boy”, we’ve already been caught in the trap that is our gender role. It defines everything we do, think, feel, express form then on. Feminist are not saying that male is better when they reject stereotypical aspects of feminism. What is “feminine”, what is “masculine”, who decides this? Rejecting the feminine look is not about being like men, or NOT being like women: It’s about rejecting gender roles- the ones that determine what is feminine and masculine- in the first place. If we’re rejecting the gender roles completely, the feminine look would not belong to women, nor the masculine look to men- there would be no wrong or right way to attempt feminine/masculine look.
Ok, so you’ve got feminism 101 down. Now lets move on to feminism 102.
Feminine =/= female.
The reason that a woman in a pink frilly dress is going to be described as more feminine than a woman in jeans and a t-shirt is because pink and frilly is coded feminine. The things we choose to wear, the way that we style and present ourselves, are the result of decades (sometimes even centuries!) long conversations about a plethora of identities: gender, race, class, nationality, sexuality, etc. 50 years ago, jeans and a t-shirt would have definitely been coded male, but the changes in western society and culture have degendered the look to an extent. But feminine and FEMALE aren’t the same thing. You don’t have to be feminine to be female and I never said or implied anything like that.
Everything you touch, everything you own, from the shoes you put in your feet to the pillows you sleep on at night, is coded in some way. Our material existence is a non-verbal language unto itself. Now, there are people who identify as genderqueer and PURPOSEFULLY fuck with this language. They mix gender signfiers to create a dissonant and unidentifiable gender identity that exists outside of or on the borders of the gender dichtomy. That is one thing, but that is not the same thing as wearing jeans and a t-shirt.
Speaking of jeans and t-shirt, I bet that jeans and t-shirt combination are still gendered in some way to differentiate them from men’s jeans and t-shirt. The jeans are likely going to be made of a softer fabric, with a closer cut fit, a lower waistband, a slight flare at the bottom. Men’s t-shirts are straight, while women’s shirts are cut so that they show off their waists. They may still be plain solid colors with the same useless little pocket in them, but they’re identifiable as a marker of gender.
What’s my point? My point is…don’t think that wearing jeans and a t-shirt and never brushing your hair is actually the same thing as the complete rejection of gender roles. If I can look at you and identify your gender, you’re conforming the them in some way.
I’d also like to point out that we, as women, are the ones who are always asked to give up/reject our “feminine look.” You never see an impassioned plea for men to stop dressing so damn manly. Because what do you honestly think is going to happen in regards to fashion if we just wake up one day and decide as a society to completely abandon all gender roles? You think men are going to start wearing pantyhose? Bitch please.
I’ll give up my black suede heels the day that Ron Swanson gives up his mustache. I don’t need to throw the baby out with the bathwater to know that I am an awesome feminist who can smash all the patriarchies.

i heard around the block that this is what’s known as gettin told
although
If I can look at you and identify your gender, you’re conforming to them in some way.
ruffles me just because there’s no coding for non-binary genders? but if a nb person dresses femme and you’re looking to id gender from their presentation, you’d guess wrong because they’re not female
other than that i enjoy this rebuttal, A+

I would love if my taxpayer money went to abortion.
And birth control.
I would love if my taxpayer money contributed to allowing people the right to bodily autonomy rather than the military’s right to blow those bodies to pieces.
This.

So, remember that if it doesn’t work out the first time, just dust yourself off and try again. Usagi matured into a strong warrior of love and justice. Ami used her knowledge to help the girls. Rei charmed people instead of her crows. Makoto made an everlasting friendship despite her rough exterior. Minako didn’t sweat the small stuff and became the soldier of love.
Maybe things seem difficult now, but just remember to never give up. These girls didn’t.
SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO TRUE!

STOP SCROLLING.
This is about saving a girls life. Kahlia Wilson goes to my school and is in year 12. She got cancer in her pelvis when she was only 13 years old, and after beating it once it has come back in her chest. Regular medicine is not an option anymore and she needs to travel to Perth for radical cancer treatment. This treatment will cost her family $30,000, money they just don’t have.
PLEASE donate at www.curekahlia.com
If you can’t donate, reblog this, or forward this to people on Facebook, and Twitter.

That Michele Bachmann, bless her heart, has introduced a bill at the federal level called The Heartbeat Informed Consent Act (an absolutely terrible band name), which would impose a national “you don’t know what you’re doing, you murderous harlot!” standard to abortion seekers and require all of them to sit there and listen to the unwanted, unfeeling, sexless cellball in their uteruses pulse unconsciously before deciding on abortion.
